BALLYMONEY Borough Council has agreed to spend over £168,000 on a memorial garden for Robert Dunlop.
The lowest tender submitted, Council chose Patrick Bradley Ltd from Kilrea as the company to carry out the 'minor works contract'.
The decision was made during a recent Corporate and Central Services meeting and revealed at last Monday's Full Counci
l meeting.
The report explained: "Richard Hunter, R Robinson and Sons presented a report from Quantity Surveyors on the tenders received for the memorial garden to Dr Robert Dunlop. Tenders were received from five contractors on Wednesday, January 20.
"The Quantity Surveyors confirmed the tender submitted by Patrick Bradley in the sum of £168,336 and the supporting priced contract documentation can be used for valuations and adjustments of variations."
In response to questions, the Chief Executive confirmed that the tender price did not include the sculpture for which an independent fundraising appeal had been launched.
He added: "The Council had sought approval for DoE to raise a loan of £250,000 to cover the cost of the project approved by Council."
It was proposed by Cllr John Finlay and seconded by Cllr Ian Stevenson that Council accept the tender from Patrick Bradley Ltd to undertake a minor works contract for the memorial garden to Dr Robert Dunlop in the sum of £168,336.
The announcement comes despite Ballymoney councillors and officials battling to keep the rates down.
It is believed in order to prune down any rates rise to a target of less than five per cent this year they have to slash their expenditure by over £800,000.
