Information wanted on war veterans

Ballintoy Archaeological and Historical Society is attempting to compile a list of all the people from the Ballintoy area who took part in the First World War.

The Society is aware that the names of many of these individuals are recorded on local war memorials, but are also conscious that many of those who participated are not listed anywhere.

To ensure that the names of as many as possible of those who served in the war are recorded for posterity, the Society would be grateful if you would forward to it the name of any person from the Ballintoy area that you know about who participated in the conflict.

While it is not essential, it would also be helpful if you could provide a photograph and any other information you have about the person, such as: their date of birth and death; their family, for example their parents’ names, brothers and sisters’ names, wife’s name, or children’s names; where they lived and what they did before the war; the organisation they served with during the war; whether they survived or were killed in the conflict; where they lived and what they did after the war.

In addition, the Society would be delighted to receive any information you have about particular events during the war that the person took part in or any special awards they received in connection with their service in the First World War.

If you can help, please email the information you have to bahs@live.co.uk or telephone 028 7083 2689.
