Concern over 'state of Ballymoney'
SIR - I have just been reading the November issue of the Ulster Tatler and I want to, through your pages, congratulate Ballymoney on the excellent write up it has received in this magazine. However, I feel, everything in Ballymoney is not as it appears in the glossy pages.
Having just finished scanning the adverts I leave my home in Ballymoney and head to Tescos - an excellent store might I add - and one of the first sights I see is the site of the old Tesco store and the nearby site of another building lain vacant for sometime.
Recently a friend travelling to Ballymoney from Belfast by train commented on how the approach to the town look very impressive on one side with the Riverside Park.
However, because of what she saw on the other side, she felt that if she hadn't planned to visit friends in Ballymoney, she probably wouldn't have bothered to stop.
How many other visitors to the town have felt this way?
Now, I am only speaking for myself here, but I think sights like this on the approach to the town are not very favourable.
Surely something can be done to improve the appearance of these areas.
Can the elected representatives on Ballymoney Council not take measures to ensure that the owners of these sites do something?
Would the old Tesco building not be better demolished and the site levelled, both for appearance and safety? Or are we going to have to look at this derelict area for 30 years the way we have had to look at Linenhall Street?
