AN award-winning Ballycastle business, established some 45 years ago, will officially close its doors later this month.
Wysner Meats has been at the forefront of the butchery market since the early 1960's but on the weekend of June 28, the shutters will finally come down marking the end of an era for owners, Roland and Gina Wysener.
Mrs. Wysner told the Times on Monday that both she and her husband had decided to take life a little easier and that while they had some regrets, the decision had been taken after a great deal of thought.
Mrs. Wysner said the closure would enable her to spend more time with her ill father who lives in Ballymoney.
"I made up my mind that family comes first and it's something we all agree on," she said.
Wysner Meats have enjoyed something of a lofty reputation, trading as they have in Ann Street for the past four-plus decades.
Roland Wysner is a member of the Northern Ireland Master Butchers and has won numerous awards for his Black Pudding and sausages scooping a national award on four separate occasions - 1985, 1993, 1994 and 1996
The Wysner family can feel justifiably proud of their shop which is pristine clean and has a reputation for providing top quality meat to a large clientele.
Mrs. Wysner admits it will be difficult to adjust to life without the strict discipline running a successful business entails, but says that since taking the decision to close, the prospect of a more leisurely approach to life is becoming more attractive.
The closure will mean the end for one of the most loyal members of staff, Patsy Hill, who has been with the Wyseners for 43 years.
Mrs. Wysner says Patsy has been a valued employee and has wished him well in the future.
She has also thanked her loyal customer base for their support down the years which she says has been greatly appreciated.
