The Downhill House Hotel, Mayo, is located on the banks of the Brosna River, tributary of the famous River Moy, on the outskirts of the bustling town of Ballina.
The hotel has recently undergone an eight month and 2 million euro refurbishment and has evolved into a hotel of excellent repute through this sensitive and tasteful expansion plan under the careful eye of the Moylett family.
With over 70 years in business, it has become synonymous with the highest quality of excellent cuisine, friendly & efficient service and attention to detail.
The Downhill House Hotel currently boasts 60 beautiful bedrooms, the beautiful Brosna Restaurant overlooking the flood-lit Brosna mini-falls and the elegant Frogs Piano Pavilion, along with superb leisure facilities, including a fully equipped gymnasium, jacuzzi, lounger pool, steam room and sauna. The hotel also has a squash room and outside has 3 flood lit all weather tennis-courts. The hotel has been under the guidance of the hospitable Moylett family for three generations, and they encourage a warm and family-friendly atmosphere.
There is a wonderful sense of 'family' and real Irish hospitality within the hotel, and Rachael Moylett, Director, attributes the success of the hotel to the closeness of the Moylett family amongst themselves and with the staff.
"Our motto is - let our family look after yours, and we are delighted that generations of families feel so comfortable here, and return year after year" she added.
GOLF
The Downhill House Hotel is the perfect choice for the golf enthusiast with special 'Golf Package Breaks' available for the nearby courses. The championship and IGTOA Irish Golf Course of the year 2008, Enniscrone Golf Club with its rugged dunes and bracing winds coupled with the backdrop of the most beautiful beach in Ireland and the Nephin and Ox Mountains, is only 15 minutes away.
An idyllic haven indeed, you must admit, to escape the pressures of modern day life for a few hours only 15 minutes from the hotel and the Ballina Golf Club a mere 5 minutes away.
The eighteen - hole Ballina Golf Club offers one of the most scenic parkland courses in the west of Ireland, situated in the heart of the unspoilt Moy Valley region and only a mere 5 minutes from the hotel.
Both courses offer the golfer a unique and varied, challenging and interesting round of golf - not to be missed. And Carne Golf Links, one of the top 100 golf course in the World (outside the US), lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near Belmullet and is only a 45 minute drive from the hotel. Carne was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to be his greatest challenge.
ANGLING
Ballina, renowned as the 'salmon capital of Ireland' has one of the most famous salmon angling venues in the world and all 2.5km of it is located entirely within the town boundaries on the River Moy, making the Downhill House Hotel an ideal base for Fishing and Angling breaks in Ireland.
RELAX
However if golf nor angling is your 'thing' then why not treat yourself to a luxury seaweed bath, steam bath or even some massage therapy?
Kilcullen's Bath House is situated in the picturesque Enniscrone and is the ideal retreat.
The combination of bath and massage induces a feeling of deep relaxation and well being.
CHILDREN
Meanwhile little ones will love the Downhill House Hotel for it's wonderful Eagles Summer Camp, which runs from Monday to Friday throughout the summer -here children can play and learn to swim in the hotel's swimming pool.
