PUPILS at North Coast Integrated College participated in a Reading Workshop to promote improvement in pupils' achievement through raising their enjoyment of reading and literacy.
Guests were invited to talk to the pupils about their personal reading habits and how reading has influenced or impacted upon their lives.

The guests included Deputy Mayor, Liz Johnson; Member of the Board of Governors Brian O’Kane, as well as, s
ix times world champion powerlifter Sammy Graham who has recently received the freedom of the Borough of Ballymoney.

The workshop doubled up as the official relaunch of the College library.

It is quite fitting in the National Year of Reading 2008 North Coast Integrated College has opened its fully refurbished Learning Resource Centre.

The recent appointment of Wendy Canning (BA Hons Librarianship) to the post of Librarian has enabled the library to be totally revamped. With some 20 years of school library experience gleaned from working in local schools in the Coleraine area, she hopes that both the pupils and the staff will be encouraged to make beneficial use of the Learning Resource Centre.

Literacy skills are important and the Library will continue to encourage the reading habit and to offer easy access to a whole range of materials, including newspapers and magazines, that perhaps pupils will not be able to access elsewhere. The Year 10 pupils have had an excellent opportunity to focus on books and reading.
