The local part time Ulster Scots Community Radio station fUSe FM has returned to the Toon and has been declared an immediate success by presenters and listeners alike.
The station began broadcasting again on the morning of Monday 23rd June and although the preceding broadcasts in December 2007 and March this year was overwhelmingly successful, neither run has been as popular as the current one.

Speaking about th
e latest taste of fUSe, local Ulster Scots Agency Development Officer, Gary Blair, said:

“None of us can believe how popular this station is in and around the Toon. Aye, we’re broadcasting straight from the heart of the Ulster Scots heartland, but even so, this is unsurpassable. In the first week, the total number of texts received to the station came to 2584. Now, that is more than we got for the full two weeks last December and the Agency could hardly believe how popular that run of fUSe was and the total for last week shows a comparative rise from March past.

“On behalf of the Ulster Scots Agency and the organising committee, the North Antrim Media & Events Committee, I would like to thank the presenters for doing a great job in keeping people tuned in each day but I would also pay tribute to the listeners who are giving fUSe their full support. If you aren’t tuned in yet, there’s still time as the station will be live for another three weeks. If you want to contact the station on any subject, whether it’s to request a song, say hello or whatever, just text fUSe (FM 106.2) to the text phone on 07936 007 888.”

The fUSe phenomenon has developed into calls from the listeners to have the fUSe team switch on the Christmas lights this year in the Toon.

A spokesperson for fUSe commented: “I’m not sure whether this all started as a bit of a joke but it definitely has grown in popularity. Members of the public have been texting every show looking fUSe FM presenters to switch on the lights. As someone who has been at the switching on, I must say that it would make a pleasant change for this task to go to someone local with whom the folk of the Toon can relate to as opposed to the normal acts that the majority of Toonfolk can’t relate to.”

On the evening of Saturday 5th July, local fUSe FM DJ, Tubes McIntyre will be having his back waxed at a function in the Manor Hotel, Ballymoney. Big Tubes is prepared to endure the pain of a waxing in a bid to raise funds for fUSe FM as the team are hoping to make a determined push to have a full time Ulster Scots station based in the Toon in 2009.

It should be a night’s crack in the Manor and the fUSe team would ask as many of their supporters as possible to attend the event which will be manned by the usual fUSe presenters.
