AT a recent Countryside Walk organised by Ballymoney Borough Council, in association with The Bank of Ireland, a tremendous turnout of over 120 walkers aenjoyed a beautiful summer's evening ramble across Ballymacaldrick Mountain to the recently developed Garves Wind Farm.
Operated by Your Energy Ltd, staff flew over from London to accompany the walkers and answer their questions about the wind farm and renewable energy in general. Construction work began on Garves wind farm early in 2008 to build the 5-turbine, 15 MW wind farm.
The turbines, which measure a total height of 125 metres to the tip, are the largest land-based turbines developed. The farm, now in operation, generates safe, clean renewable electricity for the equivalent of 8,387 homes' annual usage.
Ballymoney Borough Council would like to extend its thanks to the staff of Your Energy Ltd, Dunloy Development Association and the various landowners concerned for making the event so enjoyable.
