Simone’s cuts her locks for charity

LOCAL woman, Simone Christie, is the latest to have her hair cut for charity.

The 33-year-old went public on Friday night at Ballymoney Rugby Club to allow hairdresser, Una McCormick, to give her a ‘pixie cut’.

Simone sacrificed her locks to raise funds for the Northern Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.

Her efforts were prompted by the death of baby Amelia Christie, whose mother Michelle is a friend.

Amelia died in October last year. She had cerebral palsy, a neuropathic bladder and had to be tube fed as well as having to get oxygen on a permanent basis.

Simone, a mother of three, had the full support of those at the Rugby Club where, in addition to the hair cut, a table quiz was held supervised by quiz veterans, Tom Christie and James McMullan.

Between £500 and £600 was raised on the night and with previous pledges of sponsorship, it is thought that Simone will have collected in excess of £1500 for the Hospice organisation – a highly commendable effort.

The Hospice gave Amelia’s mum and dad, Michelle and Chris, tremendous support during the care of their baby and Simone, a family friend and a former schoolmate, wanted to do something to help.

The mother of three said she could empathise with Michelle and Chris.
