New Year debt advice is on hand in Ballycastle

David McIlveen, DUP MLA for North Antrim has invited David Kelly from debt counselling charity, Christians Against Poverty (CAP) to accompany him at his monthly out-of-hours advice surgeries.

Mr McIlveen runs these surgeries at the end of each month, in addition to his weekly surgeries at his constituency office. He aims to provide a flexible and accessible alternative for busy people who may not be able to meet with him 9-5, Monday-Friday.

This year, Mr McIlveen hopes to invite specialised services to some of the surgeries, to provide the best possible service for his constituents. The initiative was launched on Thursday 24 January at Vineyard Compassion. David Kelly was able to talk to Mr McIlveen and to explain in detail the free service that CAP offers.

Mr Kelly said: “I was delighted to be brought in as a feature of these surgeries and to show David the many services Vineyard has to offer. It’s not easy for people to pick up the phone and ask for help with their money matters, especially when the results of their debt are getting very serious, so it is great to be available for people to chat to informally.

“I would encourage anyone who is living with the stress of debt to come along to the surgeries and see how CAP could help.”

Mr McIlveen added: “I am absolutely thrilled that David has agreed to come on board and work with me at my surgeries in January.

“This time of year is pretty lean for all of us, and payday tends to seem very far away after Christmas. So debt issues can spiral out of control at this already very tight time of year.

“Christians Against Poverty is an award winning charity, who are currently managing around £72million worth of debt across the UK. They can help out in a myriad of ways that people may not expect, so I could not urge anyone more strongly with debt issues to come forward.

“David and his team do an outstanding job in the area, and I am pleased to be able to offer a forum for him to expand his work.

“David will be at my advice surgery in Ballycastle, on 31 January 2013, from 7-9pm. More information can be found on my website at www.davidmcilveen.org.uk or by calling my office on (028) 2564 1421.”
