Masonic breakfast serves up staggering £2720
A charity breakfast was held in the Bayview Hotel, Portballintrae to raise much needed funds for two local charities.
The annual event, which has been running for four years, was organised by the local district charity committee of the Freemasons of Ireland.
Andrew Bingham, the secretary of the charity committee was delighted with the turnout. The money was raised at a breakfast held at the Hotel.
Mr. Bingham said: “We’ve served a hundred more breakfasts than we did last year. There are many people here who have no association with Freemasons, but want to support us and the charities.”
Those charities that are to benefit from the function are, Guide Dogs for the Blind & Chest, Heart & Stroke Association
Representatives from the charities were present and enjoyed a breakfast themselves; Tori with her guide dog Ushi seemed to be enjoying their morning.
“I’m overwhelmed by the support here today. Everyone sounds like they’re really enjoying themselves.” Tori went on to explain that each dog costs approximately £50,000 for its lifetime as a guide dog and every penny raised was gratefully received.
Lorna Wilmont from Chest, Heart & Stroke Assoc. said that all money raised in Northern Ireland was spent in Northern Ireland. There have been excellent facilities developed at the Causeway Hospital and it was a great tribute to everyone who worked this area of medicine that the Freemasons had donated such a generous sum of money.
