Local posties gear up for annual charity van pull

BIG-HEARTED posties in Ballymoney are hoping for a first-class response to their annual charity fund-raiser which will be staged at various intervals in the coming weeks.

Top of the agenda is the van pull and street collection which will take place on Friday, September 7 and the following day. The route for the van pull will take in the main thoroughfares in the town and up to 20 people will participate..

Traditionally, the public respond well to the postie volunteers whose efforts in previous years have raised thousands for Cancer Research N.I.

Local man, Mervyn Ferris, is delighted with the fact that his charity will benefit this year and has urged people to respond generously.

“This is an event which means a great deal to us and we know that the boys will do well,” Mr. Ferris said.

For the van pull, volunteers will be donning fancy dress which will undoubtedly add to the spectacle.

There will be a number of collection boxes placed around the town in shops and post offices into which customers are encouraged to donate their spare coins.

A table quiz will also be taking place in aid of the event, and it will be taking place in the Royal British Legion clubrooms on Townhead Street on Thursday, August 23 at 8pm.

Post Office manager in Ballymoney, Sammy Graham, is never one to duck a challenge and will be playing a full part in the proceedings.

Sammy told the Times: “The van pull is an important part of our charity work and since it’s going to a very worthy cause, we are confident of raising several thousand pounds.

“The workforce in Ballymoney are certainly geared up for the two days and we hope to have a great deal of fun. We also hope that people will come and support our table quiz which will also be an enjoyable night.”
