BALLYMONEY people once again showed their support to beat cancer at the weekend by supporting a sponsored walk in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Grandmother Ann Tweed, who has battled breast cancer twice in the last 13 years raised over £1,200 on Saturday when, along with family and friends, she undertook a sponsored walk around Ballymoney.
Ann, who has described her experience as making her “a more positive person and certainly more appreciative of how precious the gift of life really is” has now been in remission for over four years and has seen the birth of her grandchildren and will be able to watch them grow thanks to the treatment she has received.
Ann said: “My message to local women would be, don’t ignore anything unusual. Even if you think it is nothing, get it checked out. Don’t bury your head in the sand.”
Sarah Boulger, Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK said: “I’m pleased for everyone who took part, but especially Ann for a successful walk and the money raised. There are 1070 cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Northern Ireland every year and Ann is testament to how early diagnosis combined with treatment can allow people to beat this disease.
