AT a meeting of the Glebeside Community Association last Tuesday a new programme designed to encourage greater health and social well being among all the people of the Glebeside estate was launched.
The programme entitled Together 4 Health was funded by the Northern Health and Social Services Board and will cost almost £28,000 to implement over the next year.

Iain McAfee Community Development Officer with the Association explained what the money would be used for 'Together 4 health is a broad comprehensive project, aimed at and involving users and user groups under the umbrella of the Glebeside Community Association. The name of the project actually reflects its main objectives which is to get groups and volunteers to have greater contact while improving the health and social well-being of the residents of the Glebeside estate'
He continued: "Activities integrated into Together 4 Health are very wide ranging with thirty different elements which impact upon all sections of the local community.

"Projects include the development of a health directory, a calendar, physical exercise, football coaching, equipment for young and old, play specialists and parenting courses as well as energy efficiency and accident prevention education amongst many others. A newsletter has been produced explaining all of the elements of the programme and will be distributed to local households in the coming weeks."

The funding from the Health Board has essentially provided the Glebeside Community Association with project costs for the forthcoming year which has naturally delighted the Association.

"Being successful with this application has been given the Association a important boost": continued Iain "It clearly demonstrates the amount of work that the groups under the Association umbrella undertake however having said that, other projects are due to be launched in the coming months which equally will be important to the future development of the lives of the people in the Glebe."

Anyone wanting further information on any aspect of the work of the Glebeside Community Association can contact Iain on 27667624 or email glebesideca@hotmail.com
