On Saturday, August 30 Rathlin Island will once again host the Rathlin Run, the most challenging running event on the race calendar. The race, organised by volunteers from Belfast Activity Centre, boasts some of the most stunning views from Ireland, an invigorating ferry ride, post race entertainment, and special guest. So don't miss the boat for this unique sporting event.
Initially in 2002, the Rathlin Run was established with the aim of promoting and encouraging people to visit the island . Over the past 6 years it has received a highly positive response from the athletes and people in the area. Each year the event has developed both in numbers of participants and in the quality of the experience. It is a package that combines the distinctive character of island life and its community with the infused energy of the athletes.

Although the event is physically challenging, all ages and abilities take part, from some of Northern Ireland's top runners to those who choose to walk and jog the course. All participants agree it is well worth the blisters! This year we are also hosting a 3.5 mile Fun Run for the more meandering runner – or walker – which will take in some of the most impressive views of Rathlin, exploring the south tip of the Island.

The race, which is being supported by northcoastcottages.com, Kinramer Camping Barn and Sport NI, aims to raise funds for youth development charity Belfast Activity Centre (BAC). This year BAC is hoping to raise funds for a greatly needed minibus to support the delivery of its charitable programmes. BAC works with a broad range of young people on progressive programmes that encourage them to reach their full potential. Utilizing outdoor activity and adventure learning as a medium, BAC delivers programmes for young disabled people, young carers, disadvantaged young people and unattached young people.

These innovative projects promote greater community participation and citizenship from our most vulnerable young people. Runners are given the option of raising funds in one of three ways: selling ballot tickets, raising sponsorship or offering a straight donation. Fun Runners are invited to fundraise for their chosen charity, if they would prefer.

Places are limited to 250 so don't delay your entry. For an entry pack or for more information log on to www.rathlinrun.com e-mail info@rathlinrun.com call 07896 314958.
