A THANKSGIVING service has been held for David Samuel McCormick whose tragic death recently caused deep regret in the community.
Ramoan Presbyterian Church, Moyarget, was crowded beyond capacity on 15th May for the service for the life of David of 4 Islandboy Road, Ballycastle.
David was the eldest of five children born to Samuel and Charlotte McCormick. He had two younger sisters - Karen and the late Thelma, and the tow younger brothers, Nigel (New Zealand) and Mervyn.
As a young boy David was educated at Moyarget Primary School, Ballycastle High School and Jordanstown Polytechnic. In 1983 he began his career in the Northern Ireland Water Service and throughout his twenty six years he never missed a single day of work.
He was an example of commitment and dedication and due to his unequalled skills he was latterly the customer services field manager for NI Water, based in Londonderrry.
In June 1989 David married Wendy Taylor, and during a happy marriage their son Ross was born in October 1997. David proved a kind and unselfish husband and was devoted to both Wendy and Ross.
Outside his family David had great interest in church life and a love of rugby.
David became church treasurer in 1990, and elder in 1991. He was also a choir member for thirty five years and Boys Brigade Captain for ten years.
David was a member of Armoy Rugby Club for the past twenty years and held the position of secretary for fifteen years. He was in his fourth term as president. David lived his life well. He had a deep faith and was genuine and sincere. He was held in high esteem and proved a great friend and stalwart to all his family, friends and colleagues.
Following a short period of feeling unwell, routine test were carried out and on Friday 8th May. David was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. The doctors had referred David to Belfast City Hospital for further investigations and treatment but David was called home suddenly on 12th May. This proved a tremendous shock to both his family and the community.
Although David's death was untimely, it was not in vain. He is now at piece and free from earthly suffering.
